Thank you Raj Thakrey - Pulled attention away from the sticky Economic Crisis issue

21st October 2008. Wow!! we have something to discuss other than economic crisis!! Well done Raj Thakrey!! More cautious (curtailing consumption) we become - worse the economic crisis will be. Although talks about industry being affected in various ways,  financial systems taking shocks and the lighting speed with which media is communicating worse situation to masses have its own role to play; we the people have even bigger role to play and can determine how soon/late we want to bounce back.

We the people!! are the ultimate source of demand for any economy. This base of the pyramid needs to be stronger to support the overall structure. If this base crumbles, nobody can save supported top layers. All policies and state communication should be made keeping in mind that mass consumption level is not much affected. May it be though controlling inflation, providing credit, increasing liquidity. News like "we are not affected", "ours' do not need any bailout" are just aggravating fear among the mass which could trigger faster dip into crisis.

We are little late in responding!!! we waited for the tsunami of crisis to reach our shores and once fear got deep into mass now we are taking curative measures. We are hearing of US economic trouble for last 6 months I think. Still government makes statements only after people started taking money off from ICICI bank, and Jet and Kingfisher played drama of sacking and then reinstating their staffs.

Just a couple of days back newspapers, TV channels did not leave any opportunity to ensure people that crisis is there are it is worsening. They are showing that there was no Dushera and there is no Diwali restricting masses further from spending. Are these going to help anyway?? No not for sure.

We have had more instances of terrorist attacks!! people are killed!! market places are threatened!! but all these never impacted India. We talked about lively Delhites, we talked about bouyant Munbaikars.. that we quickly overcome any such shocks!!

Perhaps we need similar resilience to tackle this economic crisis. Why restrict ourselves at the time of festivals? why to aggravate problem facing our big companies which started taking global market I strides. We should stand firmly by them and should help economy by living life as it has always been. Only this will help those big companies overcome their losses soon.

Today since morning I have seen all TV channels glued to Raj Thakrey and his activities. I am more than 100% sure that it will not help anyone- neither Raj , nor other politician in long term. But, given elections ahead, this has surely warmed people up with other issues - say local right issues for Raj and his followers and national integrity , harmony and constitutional right issues for national politician. Lets discuss more about our country and be participative than just mourning and worsening economic recession.
